Glover Archbold Trestle Raze Hearing Set For Jan. 11

A new date for a public hearing on the proposed demolition of the abandoned streetcar trestle over Glover Archbold National Park at Canal Road has been set for Jan. 11.

WMATA wants to raze the Foundry Branch Trestle, asserting that it’s an “economic hardship”, while others contend it is worth preserving and restoring as a conduit, perhaps for pedestrians or cyclists. The trestle is subject to the Historic Landmark and Historic District Protection Act of 1978.

The hearing, case H.P.A. No. 18-297
 Reservation 450 and 351, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at 1100 4th Street, SW, Room E200.

A hearing had been set for Sept. 7, 2018, but was postponed after the Beveridge & Diamond law firm requested 90 days to “allow us adequate time to prepare a case on behalf” of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
