Much of Foxhall Village again will be turned into a construction zone in 2018, with DC Water anticipating a six-month project to clean, line and replace water pipes that run under the streets.
Temporary water shut-offs might be necessary, parking will be restricted, pressure might fall and water might be discolored at times. DC Water says the job will get started in February 2018 and run to August 2018, with normal weekday work hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. but nighttime and weekend construction a possibility.
Twelve-inch and smaller cast iron water mains are being replaced across the city, work that will “help improve water quality and system reliability,” according to DC Water.

Fletcher Creamer and Son, Inc., will do the work, a contract combined with similar work done earlier in North Cleveland Park and totaling about $4.3 million, according to DC Water Project Manager Nyika Roberson-Ramos. The contract work scope involves 6,500 feet of pipe of various diameters and replacement of fire hydrants and valves, and lead pipe replacement in public areas.
Roberson-Ramos said the project is not expected to involve the part of the water line that connects to individual houses.
Foxhall-area streets involved are Foxhall Road and 44th Street, from Q Street to the intersection with MacArthur Boulevard, as well as Q Street, Volta Place and P Street. DC Water notices about the work were distributed in the neighborhood today.
The work comes on the heels of a Washington Gas line replacement project that started in fall of 2016 and ran into the spring of 2017 (Foxhall’s Endless Gas Pipe Job), along with extensive sidewalk renovations later in the year (Foxhall Village’s 2,915 New Square Yards).
